The complaints that I have read about Food Lion are all viable. Just another example of how large stores and Corporate America view customers. There has been talk of a Piggly Wiggly. Not sure of when or if that may come to pass. That is what we need. Then we could boycott Food Lion by taking are business elsewhere. Food Lion has a monopoly. They know it and they are going capitalize for as long as they can. One more thing! Don't you just love the way they raise prices during the PEAK SEASON! That MVP card is a joke! What a play on words. Some marketing gimmick!

    I Have been to the Food Lion distribution centers in Dunn, NC. Salisbury, NC and Petersburg, VA. I have been treated poorly at all three of these distribution centers. EVERY TIME!!! The company I work for takes truck loads of food to the Centers to be distributed to food lion stores. Everyone I know dreads having to go and deal with those people!

    Rest assured any complaint at food lion, will be considered bogus as managers and employees look out for each other and the customer can take their shopping elsewhere --for sure, as food lion could care less about the customer, just the bottom line--oh the next time you wait in line---its because the cashiers got a little break their c.s.m. cuts their hours, then when rush comes you wait as cashiers are at home!!!

    Well a site where I can actually complain about food lion practices--oh everything in here is true --oh yes well lets start back about 8 years ago and work up to now.
    Well they discriminated against this 40 something employee and wouldn't promote the employee but let all the young cashiers to be put in office. Food lion, Chesapeake, Virginia. then this employee transfers 20 miles to a VA Beach store to get promoted. Well got sick and has disability ,then comes back to work and the c.s.m allows her boyfriend to stay in store all 8 hours every time the csm works. her boyfriend harasses and terrorizes during 3 months. Reported to employee reports to H.R.O. - SO THEY TRANSFER THE EMPLOYEE WHO REPORTED IT, 8 MILES FURTHER AS PUNISHMENT.
    So then this employee gets transferred again by H.R.O.--15 MILES FROM THE EMPLOYEES HOUSE. so the employee gets a accommodation to be off on . doctors appointments .so the C.SM. DECIDES TO LET EMPLOYEE OFF ON A MONDAY AND TUESDAY, EVEN THOUGH EMPLOYEE ASK OFF 2 WEEKS IN ADVANCE FOR WEDNESDAY DR. APPOINTMENT. CAUSING EMPLOYEE TO LOSE 7 HOURS PAY ,BUT EMPLOYEE LATER GOT PAID FOR THOSE 7 HOURS. AS THIS c.s.m. had it out for this employee EVEN C.S.M CAME IN ON HER OFF DAY AND TOLD OFFICE PEOPLE TO CUT EMPLOYEE 4 HOURS ,AS EMPLOYEE HAD A RUN IN WITH C.SM. SISTER THE NIGHT BEFORE--RETALIATION --REPORTED BUT H.R.O COVERED UP .and all kinds of complaints were made to Salisbury and h.r.o. They transferred employee to a store closer to their doctors .but guess what now the employee was working for the c.s.m. that would not promote her 4 or 5 years back, so you can figure what happened there. as employee hadn't been written up for 5 years and now all of a sudden employee got wrote up 4 times in 2 months and discharged. Uumm something fishy in Denmark). So now we get to Dec 2002-- as the c.s.m who worked at store where employee was discharged, has mother in law that works for food lion store 2 miles from where we live, in the office.
    Well cashier told employee that she was being kept under surveillance by the mother in law and the scan analyst. also that after employee left store that the mother in law would call cashier into office and and ask cashier what them employee were talking about . so I wrote manager a letter about situation . When me and employee went in to store, manager came to us and ask me why I was writing bogus letters, I had it with this jerk of a manager and told him to get a real job --he told me what a job like you writing bogus letters !! Defamation of character as was said in front of 2 cashiers . and rest assured this is not Ripley's "Believe it or not".
    Also he said we could not shop at food lion store anymore or we would be arrested! Well rest assured, anything that happens at a food lion store the employee and customer are always wrong--and food lion thinks when you walk through their doors you have no rights and can use Gestapo tactics on customers and employees.
    AND FORGET ABOUT GOING TO SALISBURY---H.R.O. OR THE E.E.O. AT FOOD LION
AS WE HAVE EXPERIENCED IN 8 YEARS !! I DID NOT GIVE NAMES ,OR STORES, OR C.SM.S OR MANAGERS .
    FOOD LION MIGHT THINK THEY WON A FEW BATTLES BUT THEY HAVEN'T WON THE WAR YET. WELL MAYBE I'M AT RIGHT PLACE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT FOOD LION TACTICS --MAYBE NOT.

    I think that everyone who complains about food lion should re-evaluate their opinions before they speak to keep themselves from sounding so ignorant. So you may not always agree with the prices, but if it was up to you, you would like to pay nothing for what you are getting.
    As far as cutting hours and the inflation of prices during the off-peak seasons, do your math kid. No tourists at the beach means less income for the company. Yet the store still has to keep every item on the shelf that they would have during the summer. Which means to make up for a loss, especially those which take place in the perishable departments, they have to have some compensation for that somewhere. An increased loss of products and a decreased number of consumers equals going out of business.
    If you would like to make a valid complaint then do so, but if you know so much offer a solution to the problem.

praise----well you sound like ya might be one of the Gestapo managers at food lion, or either you have no clue as to what tactics managers at food lion stoop to. well they shut down 10 stores and i hope they shut them all down . they think you have no rights when ya walk thru their doors .i expressed my freedom of speech and Mr.. Brian Tanner at h.r.o. banned me and wife for life. as I am a veteran and wife has disability, so there's no need for you to tout how great food lion is! that's what you get with a foreign company ---just trample all over employee and customer rights! you can keep shopping at those "commie" stores as i don't need to ,there are lots of other stores . i say shut all food lion stores down!!

    Give me a break. come to Hampton roads food lions .a bunch of young managers ,with teeny bopper cashiers. hats all food lion stores are ,they discriminate against older cashiers. all the managers cover for each other .if you complain about about something at food lion stores up here Mr. Brian Tanner h.r.o. will ban ya for life. discriminates against veterans and people with disabilities and tramples on employees and customers rights --- and I guess its that way at every food lion .so give me a break!

Have a "valid" topic that should always concern anyone who would be interested in employment with said Co., F.L.&H. Inc...... It is the issue of employee disrespect. You know, where you get hired as one thing and end up being something else- always being told that initial promises are being carried out. Or, how about the one about good 'ol discrimination.... Like getting penalized constantly by a "click" within a store so much that you are always getting negative attention. Now I realize that I am coming from a fairly biased standpoint, this is why I will not resort to mere insults and anger. I am above the petty way little grocery store managers. and employees seek to target someone because they simply do not like them....
    Always looking for an excuse to ... well you know make things unpleasant. Kind of a good example of human De-evolution and how far some of us little creatures have to go in life.
    When I am out of college and in my well-paid job, in my paid for home with "real" friends & not just associates Like what I have @ F.L.) I will barely recall this fading memory only thinking of how pleasant my life is without having to be around a bunch of actual self-loathing individuals- (That is "if" you would care to delve into Psychoanalytic Freudian theories of displacement) I know most of us could care less in this greedy world, ...
    Now I was hired as something... Yes I have good references.... Yes I am a good steady worker.... Yes I have self-respect... No I do not like Vampires but look at the hungry pit called Food Lion... throw a bone to a bunch of hungry animals... Scratch my back & I will scratch yours.
    Well sorry for a few mis-spellings, as I am studying for a test in Micro-biology and Human Anatomy, quite busy. But I would like to say that I have never felt so ostracized until I was hired and bent-over by Food Lion. Looked @ right in the face by Mark Miller and Lied to, and continuously blown off when my "concerns" needed to be discussed as mature human beings. Oh yeah, how about to be hired as one thing but to watch your store manager. stall with you, bring in a friend of hers who gets the position you were promised and all the while you are getting the shaft because you are in school and you will not give your soul to Food Lion God. Yes sure we will hire you if you are a student- be glad to work with your school schedule....HA
    This company is the MOST UN-AMERICAN Co. I have ever had the exp. to work for I would tell any self-respecting adult to turn around and run to school.... unless you are really good @ Brown-Nosing, then get your Knee- pads out because you will fit in with any Food Lion store NATION WIDE. What a monster American Business has become, so large that it is really rotting from within, I cannot wait until Hannaford's stops carrying Food Lions' sorry......
    Oh yeah in case you did not know the two are the same Co. and tried to illegally monopolize the grocery market bus. in the Southeast. Until the government stepped in & stopped them, but of course this led us to the low-budget Food-Lion stores of today, whom as we speak, are bending someone over for everything they are worth and will do it until they are shut down, or until the stocks tell us what we already know, that a co. that will cut corners in a bad or malicious way towards either employees or share-holders will most certainly pay the price...
    Maybe not quickly, but for some reason, as long as I have worked @ F.L, I have always shopped @ BI-LO--- doubtful this will ever change. What a mistake I made Coming to work for this UN-American Monster.

To whom it may concern,
    My name is Brad Arthur and I am a 22 year old college student, currently attending East Carolina University. I am having a single problem with one of the local Food Lion stores in my area. It has been deemed my right to be able to purchase alcohol in all of the Food Lion stores in my area except this one. Unfortunately for me, this Food Lion is the closest store to me. I have been shopping at this Food Lion for at least 4 years, and have been buying alcohol there ever since April 16, 2002.
    My family has always been Food Lion customers up to this date. Last year my fraternity was involved in the fundraiser that the Food Lion customer organizations are allowed to be a part of. It is my right, as a citizen of the United States, to be able to purchase alcohol. I am not under the age of 21, and it has come under my attention that my rights are being infringed.
    I do not appreciate the lack of respect your company gives to such a devoted customer. I hope this issue can be resolved as soon as possible, so that I may be rightfully treated by your company in the future.

    This is regarding an incident (claim #: GCC415091) in your Food Lion store #63 in Gaffney, SC. I rec'd a letter from Risk Management Services on October 25, 2003, stating that when I fell [inside] the store that they found no evidence of negligence on their part, nor their employees, therefore they didn't feel it was their responsibility to pay for my doctor and/or medical bills, or any claims presented for this matter.
    I disagree. I believe you, or whomever needs to thoroughly re-investigate this situation and re-evaluate everything. I have spoken with my attorney and whether it was negligence on anyone's part or not, you are still responsible for any and all medical bills relating to that incident because i did fall INSIDE your store.

Description: On Dec 8th 2004 I went shopping in the Food Lion store in Hopewell Va. i only needed a few items and was hoping to gget in and out quick. When i went to the express checkout, I was asked if i had more than 12 items. I told the cashier i didnt think so, but wasnt going to count. She informed me rather rudely that this was the express. Remember, noone in line in front of or behind me. I put my items on the counter and told the cashier if I had more than 12 , she could keep them. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE?I was told if she checked out customers with more than 12 items, she would be written up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I worked for a competitor for 13 years, we would have been written up if we didnt greet the customer and thank them. Need I say I was never written up! Its alot easier to be nice and polite to customers, rather than rude like todays cashiers. I guess i`m just venting, thanks for the opportunity. By the way, I looked on my receipt and I had 12 items exactly. I think these stores need to get back to the basics, and realize that the customers pay their saleries. Without us-they wouldnt have a job!!!!!!!!!

Description: I stopped at the new Food Lion Store on 58E..Danville, Va to buy a few things on my way home. I noticed the frozen turkeys had 2 prices on them...one for the MVP card and the other reg price. When I went to check out, I was told I had to have a minimum $35 order...my total was $22...the manager came,and while a line of customers gathered behind us tried to tell us we need to read the fine print on the posted signs... I understand if there are exceptions, but the merchandise should not be marked one price and then when you check out, be told it is a higher price. I have the MVP card and thought that was the reason for special price. Unfortunately, my husband was with me and he got very upset over the pricing and told the manager(?) or head cashier.. we would not be back...we got the money back for the turkey but not only did you loose a sale...you also lost a customer. Not good for business to embarass the customer.....Just thought you should know ..thanks for your time and patience

Subject: Store  silly people
Description: This is a comment on the more recent complaints about food lion. I also find this shop overpriced and these mvp cards and similar gimmicks are always just a scam. But that is easy to figure out.In general I find prices in America a lot higher than in many countries in Europe, where I am from. Well, as to the poor veteran and his disabled wife, I find it sad that these facts have to be mentioned in the complaint. Is this for pity? It seems here that one has special rights that put you above everybody else if you are a veteran. I am sure that this Brian Tanner overreacted in banning for life (oh drama drama drama) but maybe people do not like being berated at for piffling reasons by a pompous old self important person. And what is this about "thats what you get with a foreign company.." Who is part of the Gestapo here? And "commie", eh? oh boy, get over yourself, welcome to the 21st century. Customer service will be bad in many places all over the world. I personally am appalled at the way sales employees in America treat you here. It should not be called service but customer ignoring, or insulting. Now last but not least to Ms Betty W. Martin. Thank you, you have proven to me and every other European why we ridicule America in this matter of sueing. You fall and, no it's never anybody's own fault, only that of somebody elses. If you smoke why don't you go ahead and sue a cigarette company for causing you to get lung cancer? Or go order a coffee and then you say you didn't realise it was going to be hot? Sue food manufacturers and chains for making you obese. At the obesity rate here, the economy is going to plummet even more then. What is this country coming to if some people can take no responsibility for their stupidity or clumsiness, or just deal with the fact that hey! accidents happen. Even worse are the judges that rule that those individuals recieve immense amounts of money. I think somebody in Germany tried suing a cigarette company. He was laughed out of court. And paid for it. Why is the judicial system here being made such a farce of? I am sure there are lots of intelligent and reasonable people out there in the USofA and I'm looking forward to meeting them someday.

Description: I have shopped at Food Lion for approximately 15 years. Over the past year it appears that the level of service has declined drastically. I SHOPPED at the Swift Creek Food Lion in Raleigh, NC. Several months ago I visited Food Lion to do my weekly shopping ( I spend approximately $175 per week) and started in the produce section. The quality of the produce was so poor that I ended up leaving my cart and I went to Lowe's Foods down the road. I told myself that I would not return to Food Lion. I have sporadically shopped at Food Lion since. The quality at Lowe's Foods is better but I am influenced by the lower prices at Food Lion. After my Food Lion experience today (08-Jan-2005) I will no longer shop at Food Lion. The overall shopping experience was okay. They were out of the chicken that was on sale. The issue was during check out. It was on a Saturday at 10:30 am and there was only one line open when I arrived at check out. There was one person scanning the product and one person bagging. The person bagging ended up going to the express lane. My wait through the line was about 20 minutes. I would unload by groceries partially and then run down to the end of the line and bag my own groceries to keep the product from being damaged by the conveyor belt. I ran back and forth several times. I ended up bagging 100% of my groceries. The person scanning my groceries was clueless to the extent of the work that this created for me and told be to have a nice day upon my exit. Again, I bagged 100% of my groceries so that the product would not be damaged. As I drove home I told myself that I can afford quality service (at a premium) without being stressed out. I will pay whatever it takes to avoid being stressed out. You need to do something about the level of service or you will continue to lose customers.

Subject: Store  Elkton, Maryland Store
Description: My mother had planned not to have a christmas dinner out of mourning over the death of her mother, my grandmother. My grandmother usually cooked all of the holiday dinners but this year we did not have her. My mother changed her mind after my sister and I asked her to carry on the memory with our children. She chose to purchase the entire dinner from Food Lion which totaled over $100 dollars, including 2 spiral hams. Christmas Day was my sister and I helping my mother fix the dinner at the same time helping her cope with christmas without her mother. We had gotten my mother through the toughest part until it came time to serve the ham. Both hams she had purchased from the Elkton store were spoiled/rotten. The stink and the sight of both hams were horrifying. They looked like they were invested with worms. Our dinner consisted of everything but the main course which was the ham. Not to mention my mothers heart being broke. My sister took both hams and the receipt to the Elkton store the following day where she in return received nothing but ignorance and the amount my mother paid for just the hams. I'm glad my sister went to the store insterad of my mother after everything she had already went through. I am filing a complaint because this is not the first problem I've had with that store. If something isn't done you are going to lose more customers besides myself, my sister, and my mother.

Subject: Store  early closing
Description: Store on rt 3 fredericksburg in ferry farm, They closed at 6pm on a sunday because they had no bags. Why they did'nt go to another store to get them I do not understand. They did not tell anyone as they walked into the door. 10 mins into my weekly shopping they made an announcment that they were closing and to come up front. I have 2 small children and I had to put my stuff back and leave. I will not return to that food lion it was inconsiderate of them!

Subject: Company  complaint about service
Description:  My wife and I have shopped at the Morehead, Kentucky Food Lion for sixteen years, and that means our expenditures go into six figures. We have cashed hundreds of checks there, all of them good. Being in a small town, the managers and employees know us as we are teachers and well known in the community. My wife forgot to order her checks, so she had some temporary checks. The manager refused to take her check because the address was not on the check despite the fact that she knew were long time customers who had never cashed a bad check. I called the customer complaint line. This has resulted in two harrassing phone calls from Food Lion people--one a districrt manager--telling me that we are wrong and they were right to not take the check, that this was their policy, and one even suggested we take our business elsewhere if we didn't like their policies. Amazingly, no one has tried to keep our business. The Food Lion executives seem to have this pathological need to harrass us, and try to convince us how wrong we were for complaining. For God's sake, don't complain to Food Lion, or they will go after you.

Subject: Store  Selling Rotten Meat
Description: I have read alot of theo ther complaints on this site about Food Lion, and most are about or from employees or former employees. I am neither, but I have been a Food Lion Customer for about 15 years. I shop at a store that is within one half mile of my house. I like most of the employees there and the managers seem really nice although the managers do seem very unattentaive to a complaint. At least twice a week I buy sandwich meat from the deli ( usually during the week). In the past 6 months I have bought deli meats on the weekends and 5 times out of the last 6 months that I have bought deli meats on the weekends, it has been horribly rotten. (not just spoiled. I am talking about green roast beef and ham that turns your stomache as soon as you open the package. They always replace it, but if I wanted to make 2 trips to the store a day, it certainly wouldn't be to return rotten meat. The worst part is, I bought a pound of that slimey rotten ham yesterday, and my son having a cold, made him a sanwich. He couldn't really taste it or smell it so he ate it. Luckily he doesn't seemto have food poisoning yet. When I called to let the manager know..all she could say was..."ok...ok...ok"..I did not yell and was not nasty to her at all but you would think at least an apology would be in order. Thank God my husband ( who is terminally ill) didn't have any of it. In his condition it may have killed him. How can these people sell this stuff? You know they have to be able to smell it when they are handling it. I can't believe that I am the only one. Why do people put up with this?

Subject: (Other)  Idea for shoppers
Description: I have noticed that you now have the change machine in some of your stores. Well it bothers me to think that I would have to pay for my own change. But you could have a change machine that gives you a vocher for the store. You put your change in the machine and you receive a coupon for the store for x about money. You would know the money in the machine would be yours. It would bring more shoppers to the store. I hate having to roll change and carry it all in the bank. Now they make you put your name, address and account on the rolls. I have lots of loose change in jars and never take the time to roll it. I have a family of four (2 sons) that love to eat. I spent most of my money on food. I also shop at Food Lion. This would help many people. Thought I would share the idea with you. Hope you are interested. I would like to hear what you think.

Subject: Company  Credit Card Readers
Description: Just thought I'd let Food Lion know that I will no longer be shopping at any Food Lion Supermarkets. I do not appreciate having to make an unneccessary step at the checkout line when using my credit/debit card. I am talking about the card readers that require the customer to first enter 1 for English and 2 for Espanol. The readers will not do anything unless one of these languages are selected. I live in South Carolina, which is well over 1,000 miles from the nearest Mexican border. This is "My" country and we speak "English" in the United States. I do not go to another country and expect them to require their businesses to change their way of doing things to make it easier to spend my money there. Most Mexicans here do not even have Credit Cards. They don't believe in banks. Anyway, I will buy my groceries elsewhere even if I have to pay a few dollars more. My family feels the same way. Stop your greed for the almight dollar and let us be Americans. Mexicans can learn to speak our language if they want to benefit from living in our country.

Description: . I was employed by Food Lion to work part time in the produce section approximately three weeks ago. I've been there for three weeks now. I have a wife that's a chronic alcoholic who has caused me to miss a day on my first week and second week. Once the first week she was to drunk to take care of my 7-month-old, the second week she got arrested while driving drunk with the baby with her. So I had to go pick up my child and bail her out of jail. She is now in a 6-month rehab program and shouldn't cause me anymore problems. My problem is now this week I've come down with a stomach virus and missed work last night (Tuesday 3/15) and I'm still ill today so I called the manager to tell him and he told me not to bother coming back. I explained I didn't think I should handle produce if I was ill, he then told me to bring a doctor’s note or don't come back. I've worked for WSSC Water/Wastewater Company for 20 years and our policy states 3 days off requires a doctor’s note. I didn't plan to go to the doctors because they can't treat a virus it just has to run its course. I don't feel he is being fair or understanding in this matter. I told him my wife is gone for 6 months and she won't be causing me anymore problems. And I was sorry I've gotten sick. I will get a doctor’s note for him but I'm not sure if I can work under him anymore because of his attitude in this matter. I think he needs to get some training in employee relations. I enjoy the work I do at the Stevensville store and would love to keep working there. But I feel this manager will always have a personal attitude towards me, and that makes me feel very uncomfortable. I feel like nothing I do is good enough, yet I work non-stop the entire time I'm there. I'm very upset with his tone and attitude towards me when I called and don't feel I would be able to work under him again comfortably. This really bothers me (1) Because I enjoy working there. (2) Because I really need the extra cash right now.

Description: It seems nothing has changed in the Food Lion Drama Machine. I worked as a Grocery Manager in MD for 2 years. I was promised my own store more than once and it did not come to be. I worked 90 hours a week. I was serving with the Air National Guard (Which I belonged before employment) I served in Kuwait, upon returning I found I had been sent to another store, 2 more hours away. I refused to go, then I found, the new Store Manager, hired her Son -in-Law to perform my job, not to mention both her daughters. Then they (Management) Trumped up charges against me to force me to work at this other location, I did not let this happen. Long story short, some heads rolled and people lost positions and I moved on. Reading these complaints I see nothing has changed, I feel sorry for anyone you has to work in these conditions, folks it's just grocery, not life or death.

Description: There is really no reason to complain about Food Lion here in Suffolk, VA. They all stick together and protect one another and never do anything about an in store complaint. But I am here to tell you they are losing business. There will be a new Farm Fresh 1/2 mile from them shortly. When you put over $160.00 in groceries on the conveyor belt to be checked out, and then the cashier informs you that "When she finishes the oreder she is on she is closing", what can you do? Complain to the manager, and the manager's answer, "Well move to another line!!!" But Instead, I decided to just walk out and go to the Farm Fresh 2 miles up the road. Hope thay had fun putting all the meats and produce back in stock!!

Description: The Food Lion South Creek store in Powhatan disrespect and belittle their youth employees. I prefer to just get my groceries and leave not to see a drama unfold when the Front end manager has to produce a drama about something in front of all the customers. She in essence likes to throw her authority around and belittle and embarrass the young people who work under her as baggers and cashiers. Have these people forgotten they had to start at the bottom and work up to a better position? The store manager does not follow the Food Lion Company policy - she follows her own policy. I have witnessed favoritism and "brown nosing" which is very unprofessional no matter where the employment is. Food Lion brags about equal opportunity and advancement - that is a joke for some people. I would encourage young people not to work for the South Creek branch in Powhatan, Va. My son did and all they did was jerk him around. They dangled positions in front of his nose for promotions only to snatch them away and never trained him for advancement nor pay raises for the whole 6 months he was employed. Others the same age or younger were hired for more pay, more hours, and promotions right on past him even though he had been there longer and worked just as hard or harder. It is a great store to get your groceries in but not for employment. If I knew how to send a complaint to their corporate office, I certainly would. I hate to see young people so mistreated in their employment.

Description: hello i have a couple of issues with gordonsville food lion the first iwas in there about a year ago and one employee was picking on the other bad and making him really embarressed bye getting on the mic and saying that the person was gay and putting mens magazines on the register in front of him where he would see them and telling the customers even me that this guy was gay i found out later the employee was named anthony and the other good one is no longer there good well that bothered me a little bit but ill never go back after what i saw last week a manager named mike was yelling at a old woman in line because she was taking 2 long with here credit card are what ever she had the old woman was shocked and started crying and left the store i was tore up inside mike said after she was gone i hope she never comes back that was it ive seen enough i left to with my grocercies in the cart and will never return to that food lion again they dont no how to treat customers also while im on here my husband went to the store the night before the yelling it was about 9 50 when he got there they said we are closing in ten minutes my husband took a little longer they come back over the mic at 10 and said we are closed not a minute later the manager is telling my husband that he had to go right now they are closing if not he want be getting nothing and bye reading these complaints nothing probally will come of it but food lion lost a customer in me and my husband

Description: I arrivied at the West Beaver St., Food Lion in Jacksonville, Fl. friday eave of Easter Sunday. Finding no carts in the store I asked a cashier if somebody was available to get carts. She informed me that no one was available that the stock boy was do in soon. I asked her what was wrong with her collecting a few carts for the customers. Her response was "I do not collect carts for anybody". I went to the parking lot and found a cart. Once again inside I approached to store nite manager in his office. The cashier was there and shut the door in my face. I then found a piece of paper and returned to the managers office and knocked on the door. The cashier pushed by me with pure anger on her face. I obtained the telephone number of corperate and as I left the store I heard the cashier complaning to customers about me insisting she retrieve carts. I pointed to her and said for the third time, "she needs to take care of customers". She is a very angry girl. The store nite manger allowed her to continue her temper tantrum and went to the parking lot himself to gather carts. While in the parking lot talking with customer service I observed at least 5 shoppers come out to get a cart. Several others came out of store and left without shopping. One lady (senior citizen) came to me and said "that young lady needs some anger management, she was very insulting". A few days later in a conversation with the store manager he indicated the store monitor shows me pointing at the cashier and that she was fearfull of me. She was not fearing of me, just pure anger. I'm a senior citizen. The store manager belittled me and tried to lay a guilt trip on me to cover the fact of no carts available for customers an inept employee schedule, rude, insulting cashiers, poorly trained shift managers. It seems the cashier was running the store. The summation is Food Lion has lost me as a 12 year customer and from the negative feedback I have been receiving there are several other lost customers. This should never of happened had there had been quality management and proper training.

Description: For about 12 Years I shop at Food Lion at the East Carolina Mall in Greenville, Good Store till recently, last 2 week is the worst in here last night after spend half hour at the cashier the man took $20.00 from my grocery (value of $9.00 close the register , and give me 14cents back, I told him that was a $20 and he denied , I went to my car frustrating for the antisocial worker, then I remember that the bill had a cut at the corner I went back to the store demanding to open and show me the 20’s. there was not the $20 bill in there, so I ask him to show me the $10’s and there it was, he give me an apology and return my $10 change. The problem is, he did play stupid and I know that and the end of the day that register will show an extra cash and you know what comes next. The manager did not even though for a minute to resolve this issue. Description: I grew up in the small town of Brookneal, VA with a lot of good, hard working people. I go home still as often as I can to visit my mother and mother-in-law as well as other family members. I have heard the complaints about Food Lion since the store opened. I felt that they must be exaggerated, for I was excited about having a nice grocery store in this small town. However, as time goes on I only hear more and definitely understand why. As I said before, the majority of the people here have worked hard all their lives and now live on a low fixed income. When I last went to the grocery store with my mother and saw hamburger for over $7.00 a lb. I could not believe my eyes. The quality of meat selection is the worst I have seen anywhere and the prices more than ridiculous. Since this is the only grocery store in town these elderly people are now having to find ways to carpool to Lynchburg to shop for their groceries. If you think for a minute this type of treatment toward people, especially the elderly is to your benefit, enjoy it while you can because I can promise you that if you have any sense of consience you should not be able to sleep at night, and if not, just know that one day you will give an account to a higher authority.

Description: I was in the Gunston Plaza Food Lion on July 30th to purchase a few items. I went to the deli counter but no one was there. There was a sign on the counter that stated the deli department was open from 8 a.m. untill 8 p.m. daily. I went to the front of the store and asked a clerk if there was anyone working deli and was told that person had to go home. I told her the sign said it was opened and asked if there was anyone else in the store who could help me. She got on the PA system and paged a John or Jack who never materialized. She then ignored me. I completed my shopping and checked again to see if there was anyone in the deli section. Others approached the counter and got tired of waiting and waljked away. When I checked out I was told by a second cashier I had spoken with that day that they were short handed and she was expected to send all the clerks home later in the evening and work the last couple of hours by herself. That is a very dangerous practice. The store is dirty. My kitchen became infested with weevils from contaminated flour I purchased there. I have given up on Food Lion. There are other places I can go to shop that are clean, that employ people to serve me and are courteous. I have had to tell cashiers the difference between cabbage and lettuce so I would be charged the correct price. The way this store is run has convinced me that with Food Lion the customer is the last concern they have.

Description: I live in Manassas,Va,,Here we have many stores,,,Shoppers,Giant,Safeway,Super Walmart,Super Target,,and oh yes Food lLion. Its so funny to see how bad their business is here,the other stores out sell them 5 to 1. And its no suprise they did so bad,there stores are dirty,the managers and employees are rude and the selections are bad,,So they decieded they would convert all the Food Lion stores to a brand named Bloom,,a more upscale store,,only thing I saw was higher prices with the same jerks! The Bloom brand store that they advertised as a different kind of grocery is just that,Its a food Lion with high prices! Needless to say these new stores do less business than the Lions did! T bet they wished they had boarded them up and left this area instead of pumping all that money into the converstion. This chain needs to understand,they cannot compete in any market where there are other chains,,they need to stay out in the country where they are the only store! I am not an employee of this store,I am a distributor for products that I deliver to all stores in this area,,there are 4 Blooms here,,you could put all of them together and there sales wouldnt equal one single store of the other chains, Do yourself and family a big favor and never shop these stores!

Description: We try our best all the time. As far as the "Temporary Checks" go, it is our policy that we DO NOT take ANY TYPE of check that the Full Name, and Address are imprinted on the check. We can't violate policy for one person without violating policy for everyone. For the customer that complained about the "Check Out Lane Blockers" they are required by Company Policy, and Standard Practice to be in place at all times. This includes blocking off registers that are not being used. We try to prevent people from going through the checkout lanes "backwards" for security reasons. We also block our lanes off when they are not being used for security reasons. It makes it alot harder for a shoplifter to slide by a register that is blocked off, than a register that is not blocked off. If your legs are in that bad of shape, we provide a "electronic", "MART CART" for your convience and use. PLEASE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT. HE CALLED THE DISTRIBUTION CENTER TO NOTIFY THEM THAT HE NEEDED THE DAY OFF. AS REQUESTED, HE DID GET A DRS. NOTE AND TOOK IT TO THEM. WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT? HE WASN'T EVEN ALLOWED TO ENTER THE PREMISES. THEY BROUGHT HIS CHECK OUT TO HIM AND TOLD HIM HE WAS FIRED. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER TO FOOD LION SINCE THEY OPENED THEIR FIRST STORE IN CHESTERFIELD, VA; EVEN THROUGH THE "BLEACH SCARE". HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT, AND ALL THE NEGATIVITY I HEAR FROM THE CASHIERS WHILE I AM CHECKING OUT CONCERNING THEIR MISTREATMENT, AND THE HORROR STORIES ABOUT THINGS GOING ON INSIDE THE DISTRIBUTION CENTER AND THE FOOD I AM BUYING, I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE FOOD LION AGAIN. IF HE DIDN'T ADHERE TO THESE STIPULATIONS, THEY THREATENED TO FIRE HIM AND MANY OTHERS AT THIS DISTRIBUTION CENTER. I HAVE DECIDED THAT THESE INCIDENTS WERE PROBABLY MEANT TO COME TO LIGHT. PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON AT FOOD LION. WE HAVE CONTACTED THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT CONCERNING THE DISGUSTING CONDITONS AT THIS DISTRIBUTION CENTER. IN A FEW CASES SOME OF THE EMPLOYEES DRINK ALCOHOL ON THE JOB AND GET SICK ON THE FLOOR. THIS HAS BEEN SEEN BY MY SON-IN-LAW. Dry Idea Deorderant Cream of Onion Soup Furnace Filters Out of sugar on a regular basis Meat counters empty on a regular basis Never enough meat for meat specials Perishable items out of date To make there shelves look good and stocked, they move "like" products over into the wrong slot to give a full appearence. I have seen the manager humiliate employees in front of customers. I have personally asked him about items and he wouldn't stop long enough to help me or answer my problems respectively.

Description: I went to shop for my monthly groceries as usual at food lion January 31, 2006. I checked out about 9:20 pm.I was told that my total was $88.00. I asked for $100.00 change back.But, I did not get my receipt back. I insisteed that I needed my receipt.The manager on duty went to print my receipt, but he could not. My cab came and the driver had to wait for me and thereby running the meter. I told the manager that the waitng time of the cab had to be paid for. He stated that the store manager will be able to pay me . When I called the manager the next day, all he said was "come by I will print you a receipt." I I did not receiive any word of apology from any of the manager. I am a disabled teacher. I do not drive as such I just can't run to the store just to get a receipt. My receipt is improtant, so I am aawre of how much I was charged. If I did receive the sales discount.

There is usually a long line waiting to be checked out. This is very flusterating to all of us. There are usually 8 - 10 waiting to be checked out. This is very annoying when you are tired after working all week. Please keep extra check out lines available at Food Lion - Wilkesboro Blvd. in Lenoir! Several weeks other shoppers and I have made comments and been upset with the service of this store! The clerks they do have working are very nice and apologize. It is not their fault! But management needs to do something!

Description: I have a boyfriend who is a long distance truck driver and goes to your distribution centers especally on the east coast. He has a photo ID badge the company he works for issued to him and must keep it with him. He can use this badge at other companies as his form of ID and they have no problems with it, because it does has his photo, company name and his employee number on it. Yet your company insists on having his drivers license. Not saying you would think one of your employee would ever copy his information down to use, but it could happen and has at other places. With ID thieft becoming a NATIONAL problem, why keep insisting on a drivers license when it is a very personal ID? Would you be willing to have to show your license across this country for others to have access to? I would not and I don't think it is fair for your company to continue this either. Why not make it company policy that if you have a company badge use that information and if not then ask for a form of ID, but make sure that this information can not be removed or read by anyone! We are dealing with a case as I write this where his license number and address where used illegally. I await your response.

This hotline is used as a red alert to protect the Delhaize / Food Lion name and the rearends of management that have no idea of what they are doing. Last I checked the link has been removed. Its replacement is tellfoodlion.com - more driven towards customers, but none the less still a red alert for this governments public relations and human resources to step in and cover things up and hold the wrong people accountable. Its my advice you seek an attorney for any issue of drastic measure, for this company does not have you or your familys best interest in mind. I'm living proof of that. Who am I? Im a Liar according to loss prevention, you see over a decade ago I was labeled a liar for not disclosing a DWI that happened 11 years before I was hired. Thus a man from loss prevention came in with his tape recorder sat me down in the break room and asked me a few questions and fired me on the spot. This was the intention even before he asked anything or turned the tape recorder on. Being the only manager to ever met trucks in this store or let alone in the area. This is how I was rewarded for all my hard work. I lost everything as a result of this, my wife, son, and my home. To this day I'm still trying to recuperate and this was 10 years ago. Profit Sharing - Gone, Retirement - Gone. Only to be replaced with a sex offender who took advantage of a fellow employees schedule and seduced his underage daughter. Bright move Delhaize My best advice other then seeking employment elsewhere is to show up at work everyday you are scheduled and cover your ass from every angle, making sure 'Your' work is complete. Document everything daily in a notebook around you that is witnessed, for one day this may be the only thing you have to protect your best interest. Ever wonder why they call you an associate not an employee? well employees have rights, associates have none, You work for a government not a company, always keep this in mind. Part time associates are the reason Food Lion is where its at today, these stores are soley ran by them, dont belive me? take a trip to any location and see for yourself. You can always tell management or full timers by the different style or color of clothing they wear, they stand out among the drones around them. Part timers have it the worst, these people are scheduled 6 sometimes 7 days a week, even though their status clearly states part-time, are the only people you will see in these stores on weekends, minus on full timer, who is usally only office related. Part timers are always asked to work days and hours that even management wouldnt consider themselfs. Management - for anyone that is not required nor feels obligated to do a thing that requires work is BS. How Food Lion justifys this and allows it, Ill never know. Ever wondered why? well your grocery deparment is basicly providing a service to customers, food lion doesnt make a dime on anything in this deparment. by the time the warehouse deals with it, the fork lift driver and humper, then the truck driver and ultimately you the stocker, wheres the profit? The profit is in you, the stocker, yep thats right, the faster you can put it on the shelf, the more money uncle Delhaize makes. This explains why the case count in this department is so high and understaffed. Beware of this company asking for your idea on 'how to improve things'. The program is BS, giving employees money for their ideas is a crock. First off, youll be told your idea will not, for various reasons, even if it clearly improves working conditions, store conditions, and even sales will not work or can not be implemented. Then 3 months down the road, like a slap in the face, your very idea in a memo for you to sign and atest youll implement it or be written up for not doing so. I can go on and on about food lion and their scrupulous ways, but im sure its on the net some where, this amount of incompetence gathered in one spot, surely makes itself apparent.

Description: The produce (most of) is old. some starting to take second growth,like onions, Bags of potatos have rotten ones in them,and that is just what I got today 07/28/07. Does anyone spot check the produce? I've complained to differant employees, even told some "white collars"that was at the store one day,but only one took enough time to listen to part of what I had to say before the others rushed him on. Food Lion has /is going to shit at the Richfield Store, anyway. As for me, I'll start shopping at Harris Teeter if things don't get back to the way it was,not long ago. I have been a loyal customer ever since it was Food Town. I suppose they have fallen in the same cess pool as many others, screw the people,just make the money by any means.

Description: First, I will start off by saying that I am a cashier at Food Lion and I offer EVERY one of my customers the utmost respect. I have never been rude or unpleasant. I have always made an effort to rise above and beyond the "typical cashier" behavior. Yesterday, I had a very disturbing experience with a customer. I had no one in my line, so I went to the next line to help my fellow employee bag. The customer was asking the cashier what every item rang up as(I understand, I would want to know the price as well. Sometimes items do not ring up as the advertised price.). The cashier was very patient and accomidating. I was bagging the customers groceries when out of no where, the customer starts getting irrate and yelling,"Don't you be catching an attitude with me! This is MY money and I'm gonna make sure things are done the way I want them done!". I calmly responded,"Ma'm, please just calm down. No one has an attitude with you, just tell us what you want us to do and we'll do it." She says, "NO! Don't you tell me to calm down!" I said, "Ma'm, please calm down, there's no reason for you to talk to me this way, I'm just trying to help you". She quickly said, "I'll talk to you any kind of way I want....I'M GROWN!" I'm usually a very upbeat person...but still, I'm a person. She started throwing her food that I had bagged on the counter and told me I was doing it wrong (very carefully, I had put the cold meats together, boxed items together, ect.) I told the cashier to call our manager and when he came over, she turned into the most polite individual I had ever seen. I looked over to my line and saw that I had a customer. So I went over to wait on them with tears in my eyes. I was wishing these customers a wonderful day with tears streaming down my face. Never before had I felt so disrespected. I'm not a teeny bopper in high school. I'm a respectful, God fearing young lady. I have a child that I raise on my own, without the help of child support. I'm not on welfare. I live in a depressed area of Va. and all of our jobs are sent overseas. I'm forced to work at Food Lion. I respect every customer that comes into my store. I would really appreciate the same treatment. I have some really awesome customers. They're what makes my job worthwhile. Please, next time you go through a line at Food Lion, show your cashier a smile, ask him or her how they're doing.....realize that the fact that we aren't the CEO of the company and we didn't make the rules. I understand that cashiers generally do have a bad reputation, but there are alot that are willing to go the extra mile to make sure your experience at Food Lion is a satisfactory one.
