I have a membership with Beyond Fitness, (was Gold's Gym) and I moved in July to Atlanta, GA. In June (one month prior to the move) I filled out the proper paperwork to end my contract with them. Unfortunately they have continued to bill my credit card for months and now state that I owe the company close to $800.00.
For some reason, the company did not charge my visa account over the course of March and April. There was not reason for them not to charge the account. However, they are now stating that because of this, my account is in bad standing and they will continue to charge my account.
I am amazed by the lack of customer service as well as their bold stealing of money out of my account. It is my hope to resolve this issue ASAP. It is also a great concern to me that they have sent this to a collection agency when in fact they owe me money.
PLEASE HELP!!! - WBR

Description: I wish I had read these emails before I set up my personal trainer through Beyond Fitness and Golds Gym. I have been trying for two months to cancel this agreement. I finally got a mailing address. I have instructed my credit card to not accept any more billings from them, we will have to see how this works I hope I don't have as many problems as these other people. Let me know if there are any lawsuits out there concerning this.

Description: We have had the same issues as described by many on this site with Beyond Fitness. Now the collection agency is calling to collect on a contract that was cancelled 2 years ago. Question is , has anyone actually filed legal actions against this company and if so what has been the outcome?
I live in Utah and would like to proceed with a law suit in early 2008. I would like to hear from those who have proceeded legally with Beyond FItness in the past.

Description: In January 2007 I moved from Utah to Missouri. Since there were no Beyond Fitness locations in Missouri, I began the process of requesting a relocation buy-out in February. I followed their procedures, sent all the necessary information, proof of move and $100 cancellation fee by way of certified mail. I was married in February also and I sent them my marriage certificate along with the phone bill with my new husband's name. They called me and said that I had to send them a mortgage or utility statement with my name on it. I explained that my husband has the mortgage in his name and all of the and utility information was in his name only and that's the way we wanted to keep it. They told me that I would have to have my husband prepare a lease agreement for me to sign. I told them I thought that is was ridiculous to ask us to prepare a ficticious document just to prove my residency. I then faxed them a bill from the clinic where I was an obstetric patient, thinking that this would obviously be a logical way to prove that I resided here. After all, why would I seek prenatal care all the way cross country? They said that wasn't good enough, then I sent them a bank statement with my new address. They said that still wasn't good enough. Well it's now June 29 and I still haven't been cancelled and have still been charged fees for March, April, May and June. They "say" they are going to cancel my policy finally but are not going to refund me for any of the months that this has taken to settle. Their customer service reps are terrible. They don't call back when they say they will, they neglect to respond to faxed correspondence and they refuse to let you speak to anyone in authority over them. They were very rude and hung up on us when trying to settle this matter. They are cheating people out of money all over the place and I am so glad that I found this site to complain to. This company has no business being in business!

Description: I Joined Beyond Fitness in 2003 in Lexington, KY at the Richmond Rd.Gold's Gym location (which is now closed). For the first few months everything went well until my trainer was relocated to Louisville, KY and never replaced. I attempted to obtain another trainer at that location and was unsuccessful and eventually decided to cancel my contract. I spoke with Colleen at the Corporate office and at the time she would not resolve the issue or cancel my contract because she was going on vacation to Michigan. I had to stop payment on the account and four years later I am still waiting for her to return my phone calls. My account has been turned over to a collection agency, and they will not provide me with any company information or how to resolve this issue. This preventing me from getting aj ob, because I have an account that is past due. If you have any solutions please email me at emblandford@hotmail.com

Description: I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has posted your complaints with this site. I signed up for Beyond Fitness and had 2 training sessions. When I went in for the third they said I had been assigned to a new trainer who had called in sick and would contact me at the end of the week to reschedule. The end of Thursday rolled around and I hadn't heard from anyone. So, I decided to do some research before contacting them and luckily found this site.
I contact my original trainer (who happened to be a manager) and luckily found out my paperwork hadn't been sent in to the corporate office yet. I was able to obtain my original contract, my initial check (for 399 dollars) and the cancelled check that would have allowed them to make monthly withdrawals. It was nice driving home that evening with an $1800 dollar weight off of my shoulders. Thank all of you for making your stories known.

Description: I too have a similar story with Beyond Fitness. I read the contract and followed the specific directions to cancel my contract and they are still trying to pull money out of my account. My back told me that the only way to stop the jerks is to close that account and reopen a new one.
They must be VERY used to scamming people because they have not contacted me once since I sent out my certified letter of cancellation but did send me to a collection agency 1 week after they realized they couldn't get paid.
A friend advised me to contact the Better Business Bureau and I am pleading with all the people that have been screwed over by this company to do the same.
After that course of action, we also have a news channel that runs a program on shady companies and i will be contacting them after collecting as much evidence against Beyond Fitness as possible.

Description: I must start off by saying that I apologize to any individuals that may have been mistreated or misguided by beyond fitness. I actually use to work there as an employee and know a little bit about how it works. First of all I would like to say that I feel that the problems of course......all stem from the management of the company. The leaders and top executives seem to have a powerful and compelling push for sales and not enough drive for customer satisfaction. Any customer satisfaction received will come from the actual trainer themselves. Most trainers that I have seen as of lately in the area that I am in are very good trainers and well qualified. But very much underpaid and undertrained as far as what they are alowed and capable to do. Most traines are paid a small portion of money for each session and then any extra time they spend at the gym is on there own time. There is very little training that is entailed to the minute but important details of customer service, however most trainers go out of there way for there clients because of the relationship that is created. All I am saying is that Beyond Fitness lacks a strong leadership within the company that has motives of service. Its all about how much and what more can you produce. There is not a culture that is focused on what can I do for you? How can I help you out? This is because of lack of leadership, and lack of training. What goes on down there at headquarters is oblivious do us trainers that are far distant away.
Most companies have mission statements mottos visions and standars that they go by but there is no such thing here at Beyond Fitness. Hard pressure on production but no fine tuning and lubrication going on with the customer service.
I have been with Beyond Fitness on and off for the past couple of years and have seen some improvement taking place within the company. However this culture that has been created will not be changed until it changes from the top!! I repeat that this culture will not be changed until leadership decides to lead and start caring about customers and employees. You may feel like things were not completely upfront, but I must tell you that is how things are not only with customers but with employees. The company should treat there employees like they would treat there best customer!! See the problem they are not treating there customers very well so you can imagine the way they treat some of there employees.
All in all remember that this is a company ran by quotas and people feel coerced and compelled to do what is neccesary to keep there job.
please remember that many of the trainers themselves are there because they depend on the job and have no other options that they can take. But I know that the trainers themselves are taking the neccesary steps to try to help serve you in any way possible.
Remember that Beyond Fitness is at the mercy of the gym that they are in! if they fail to satisfy you as the customer, not only do they hurt there own business but they also hurt the market of the local gym they are within. Most gyms will only take so much before they will threaten to throw Beyond Fitness out.
The fact of the matter is most employees for Beyond Fitness don't know that much about the contract. There is no trainings specifically on the contract. Now as a manager you learn about the contract but not in very much depth. There just isn't a whole lot of information that the employees themselves receive.
The only advice I have at this point is make sure that you get what you want! Make sure that things happen for you! You deserve good quality care, you deserve to be served in any way possible. I don't actually have a lot of knowlege that can help you, most of you have more knowledge then most of the workers. They are not lieing when they say they don't know what happenned or what to do. They refer you to corporate headquarters cause that is what they have been told to do. I know that most must be very frustrated and that is understandable. But don't be taken advantage of, make sure that the right things happen, make sure that you get your money back. Also if you are feeling ignorant right now check out your contract read it and understand it before you make the call. or if you have not yet signed up with Beyond Fitness just make sure you know the contract and what you are getting yourself into. Also make sure the managers of the gym know that you are upset. They do not directly belong do Beyond Fitness (Beyond fitness is separte from most gyms) but what you think affects both Beyond fitness and the gym that supports beyond fitness. And beyond fitness is at the mercy of the gym.
good luck to all of you that have been mistreated I hope that you will receive recompense and restitution

Description: I was happy to originally sign up for the services of a personal trainer with Beyond Fitness (gold's gym) and after the company let go my trainer and in turn set me up with several unsuitable replacements I decided to discontinue my training. I did however continue to pay the agreed monthly payment until 3mo before my agreement ended they were all of a sudden unable to process my payment. This in turn made my account delinquent. I after arguing with a company rep. again agreed to pay the full balance which now included over $100 in late fees. A month later, after my agreement had completed its 1yr term, after I had paid the account and its unwarrented late fees, and after I had spoken with multiple company reps about my wish to cancel the account I recieved another bill. Again stating my account was delinquent and on top of that my subscription had been renewed for another year. This is a HORRIBLE company to deal with. They will continue to try to take you money even after you've bent over backwards to be compliant. I will never do business with or promote this company again....not even to my enemies.

double charged
Description: I paid for a personal trainer for 48 hours of training from a company called Beyond fitness working out of Gold's Gym in West Jordan Utah. They charged me $1959.00.
$1400.00 I charged on a credit card the rest by check. Within a few days the corporate headquarters double billed my credit card another $1400.00. Once I saw this I thought I would just go down to the gym and tell them to electronically add the amount back to my card. When I arrived one of the trainers asked me to prove that it even happened. And then he told me if I had proof that he could take care of it right then. I brought all the proof down to the gym a little annoyed that I had to even prove it and make an extra trip, since they should have records as to what they did. Anyway upon seeing the proof and I gave it to him. He told me he would get with his manager and it would be taken care of and told me he would call me that same day. He never did. A few days later his boss called me and asked me to give even more proof and then gave me the number of the corporate office to call.
They again wanted proof so I faxed it to them. The corporate customer service person admitted that I deserved a refund and said it would happen in 30 days. Thirty days went by and I received nothing. At that point I called back yet again. They informed me once again that I was going to get the refund and that it would be mailed to me. I asked him if he had my address to send it. Which I know he did since I had faxed it to them several times. but when I asked him to repeat it
he kept getting it wrong. His demeanor instilled no confidence in me that I would ever get it. I could tell from his voice that they had no intention of even sending it but I had little recoarse but to wait yet another month. Then I called yet again and I was told that the check had indeed been mailed out from North Carolina on March 7th, 2006. The current day of this call was March 11th. I said to customer service rep that I probably should have received it already if it was truely mailed that day. She told me that if the mail did not arrive it would be returned to their company upon which they would fedex it to me at that Point. Today is March 14, 2006 and still no check. I have read a record on your site that I am not seeing now that talked about an former employee that said they on purpose double bill lots of people and then are slow to repay or don't repay and make lots of money from the interest. I really think this is what is happening. I don't believe that this check was ever mailed and I don't expect to receive it. I think they are going to string me out for months to come. This company is the lowest of the low. I have not been using their services and have only used 9 1/2 hours of the 48 hours I paid for. I really want all my money back not just the $1400.00 because I am so upset with them I really can't even go to the gym and work out, I just see "RED". I am thinking about getting a lawyer now and possibly advertising looking to see if this has happened to other people because I think it has! The trainers at the gym just tell me that the corporate office is terrible and advise me to sue them (this is the advise of their own people!). But they offer no possibility that I can even get anywhere with them. I have read stories about the employees being unhappy as well. I believe I read them on this site. Plus their trainers at the gym I signed up at tell me what a terrible company they work for! I saw 30 pages of complains but now all I get is a database error and only see the first record on beyond fitness. I could really use seeing these records again can you fix this. Might need it. Since in my letter to them I sent a copy of your page showing some of the complains I am wondering if Beyond Fitness has contacted you guys and is trying to surpress any bad reports. I would hate to think this is happening. I am sure that 9 people out of 10 get worn down and let Beyond fitness gets away with this bad behavior. Not me I am that 10th person and I don't intend to drop this until justice is served. I have all the documents and we have a tv new person in town that handles just this sort of thing. I intend to have it aired on tv if necessary. What ever it takes.... I have the moral High ground here and Beyond Fitness shouldn't even be in business if this is how they intend to treat customers! All their excuses are just to keep the money a little longer or permanently. I don't believe a word they say! I believe there are X employees that know what they do and I would like to contact them. Can you help!

Description: I am a member of Living Well Lady Fitness Center,an all female gym: 8210 Mills Drive Miami, FL. 33183. On April 4 2005, I signed a personal training contract with Beyond Fitness for 3 sessions a month, at $90/month, for 6 months. An automatic payment was also made in October and then another in November so as to fulfill my obligation to provide 30 days notice and written cancellation. I did this to remain in "good standing" which was suggested by their payment service, in order to have any chance of a refund.
Unfortunately, I have been unable to use any of these sessions due to a foot injury and two subsequent surgeries. After my first surgery, 6/9/05, I was disabled from training from April to October. When I returned to the gym I was informed that Beyond Fitness was no longer providing services at this facility. They referred me to Gold's Gym, a coed facility located at 1617 SW 107 Av. 33165.
I requested a full refund of all my unused personal training sessions because my membership is at Living Well Lady, an all female gym and I will not train at a coed facility. The Florida Consumer Protection Code (501.017) stipulates a facility of "equal quality"; Gold's gym is a coed facility which is certainly not a facility of "equal quality". Additionally, according to both Mapquest and Yahoo, Gold's Gym is more than the 5 miles stipulated by the same code. I have requested a full refund based on these facts alone (besides the fact that I had additional surgery on 12/14/05 and am again unable to train for the next several months).
I have written and called the company several times requesting a refund but they have refused. I've sent registered letters to their corporate office in Atlanta, GA. and to a customer service person, Jerena Grimn, in Raleigh NC. They have refused to refund any of my money, saying that Gold's gym is within 5 miles, and because some of the trainers are male that the "female gym" issue is not valid.
I have filed complaints with both the BBB in Atlanta, Geogia, and Consumer Services in Miami, FL. Both have been unable to resolve this issue, or even get a response from the company. I have all the documetation and can foward it to you if neccessary. Do you think you can help?
Thank you in advance for your efforts.

Description: I WAS a member of Golds Gym in Wilmington NC until I delt with "Beyond Fitness".I signed up for training with this company and was told that I would be trained by the young lady who signed me up.This did not happen, inside of a few months I had 3 different trainers! I learned later that the girl who had signed me up was fired because she was hired at a certain pay rate and later Beyond Fitness said they wouldnt pay her that rate contract or no contract, when she brought up this injustice to the managment thay fired her. This should have been clue #1 that this company is crooked. They get their money every month from me and I get trainers that either don't show up or know NOTHING about what they are doing. When I spoke to the supervisor for Beyond Fitness she seemed to not care. When I tried to contact a home office all I got was a voicemail box and a fax machine. In my own investigation to find someone to cotact I found PAGES of complaints against this company Beyond Fitness.107 in the last 2 years,86 were not handeled by the company. I also found that some of the owners have criminal records involving things like drugs and even GUN RUNNING! This company is run by crooked people who do crooked business. I have never found so much negative feedback on any company and it still be in business.DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BEYOND FITNESS!!!If you search this company online you will find complaint after complaint and even a few "trouble shooter" news teams that have went after them.Beyond Fitness is a bad company with a bad reputation.

Description: Here is some information about the Beyond Fitness Personal Training services and the gyms in the Raleigh area.
When looking into a contract with BF for the training department, ask the rep that you are with a few simple questions. Question #1: ask if you can meet with all the trainers on staff that way you can decide which trainer is best suited for you. DO NOT let the general manager pick this trainer for you. Would you let a car salesman pick a car for you if you didn't test drive it? Make sure the chemistry is there and make sure the trainer can and will provide the results that you are looking for. #2: Many complaints about the training department are about the trainers missing appointments. On the back of the contract, it will state the company has to provide you a service of training. If your trainer is not available and another trainer is, take advantage of this situation and use this new trainer. It may workout to your advantage because if you don't then the company is NOT in breech of contract. They have a person(s) on staff to provide you the service, you were just upset that your trainer was not there so you left. This new trainer may never be late, may have great and new workouts and may care about you. #3: Watch the trainers in the gym before you sign up. What are the mannerisms of these individuals? Are they on time (sessions run on the hour and 1/2 hr's)? Do they get excited about the client and his/her workouts? Do they walk the floor and help others when they are not with anyone? These are VERY important qualities in a trainer. Most of the time, the customer service issues do not come from the training department but the corporate office itself. For that I want to sincerely appologize. The trainer or the general manager gets in the middle of it all. So be patient as much as you can, because most of the times, his or her hands are tied and they can only provide information that is provided to you. Last but not least, get it in writting from the general manager of the training department, that if for what ever reason you need out of your agreement, you have all the methods necessary to do so (addresses, phone #'s and payments : 15% of the remaining balance or $250.00 whichever is greater)

When my contract time had expired I went to the store to ask what the policy was for cancellation. i was told I could not do it in store but I had to send in a form (which the rep provided) to the corporate office in order to cancel. No biggie. The form stated that it needed to be completely filled out and sent in certified mail. Which I did in October 2005. November 2005 I got an invoice from Beyond Fitnesses billing company Aphelion saying I owed for November then I got one for December. Confused as to why i was still getting billed I called. The rep-Donna said that they never recieved any certified mail or any cancellation form and she said that my contractis for 2 years. Now I have to go through the hassle of proving to them (with reciepts, etc again) that i did go through the proper channel to cancel and pay my account. Dealing with this company has been a headache. The people at the Durham Gym were nice but beyond that the company sucks!

Description: I entered into a contract with Beyond Fitness in July 2005 and it is now Jan. 2006 and I have yet to get a card! They didn't bother to send me anything regarding who was taking my money out until a month after they took it out and I filed a fraud claim. When I signed up I told the man that my insurance company was to pay $20 of it once a month after I visit the gym 8 times or more, he had no clue to what I was talking about. They didn't take money out until November and it was scheduled to be withdrawn in August. I moved in October and thought nothing of cancelling since they haven't lived up to their end the of the contract. I tried to call them in November once Duvera Billing withdrew money out of my account and told me to call headquaters and each time I called I could never get anyone on the phone and I can't find an address to write them either. Now I have this 866 number that keeps calling, but can't and doesn't care about me before they called. They are calling fradulantly having my phone number come up on the caller id as well! How do I get them to stop?

Description: My husband and I joined the gym in Fuquay, it was nice. I moved to raleighand tried a different gym. The one on Spring Forest. This is the worst gym I have ever seen. The gym doesnt have adequate pins, weights that match, it is extremely dirty and apparently the rest of the gyms in Raleigh are the same way. I really want to cancel my membership but I don't know how, or under what circumstances I can. I wish I would have never joined.

If you are being taken monthly by these con artists, call your band and "stop payment' on any credit card or checking account they are drawing from. DO THIS IMMEDIATELY!! Secondly, I have spoken to an attorney who will file a class action lawsuit against Beyond Fitness. I have showed him many of your letters, he has spoken to the BBB and others and is willing to pursue a lawsuit for all us "victims". Please email me at grouprj@adelphia.net if you are being ripped off by this company.

Description: We have spent 3 months attempt to resolve the very same complaints listed already by numerous people on this website. For 3 months, Beyond Fitness has not returned phone messages, certified mail or even attempts for the Better Business Bureau to discuss out complaints. My husband was not give any session after the first visit. The Trainer would not return phone calls to set up sessions and was fired within a month. we feel the contract was voided by Beyond Fitness since they did not provide services that were outlined int he contract. We recently recieved a call from Beyond Fitness only because we had stopped the drafts from our checking account. No that we have a number to their customer service department we have found that the staff has no customer service skills and had no interest in us - only our money! I have pleaded with Peak Fitness to help fix these issues. Any suggestions on creative ways to stop this company??? We feel they will not show up if we sue them and never see the money we are rewarded. So we need alternate ways to find justice!

Description: The new gym was opening up in the Wake Area at the Factory. They ran promotions for months with a $10 a month memberships. Sounds great, close to home and a brand new facility with a 2 year membership for only $300. My husband and I, at least 4 of our neighbors, we all signed up. This was in January 2005, the gym was to open in June, then July, then August, and now its end of December and the stupid place is not even 1/2way completed. It actually looks like they stopped work about 4 months ago, and started to remove the equipment that was there few months ago. This is so crazy. Nobody seems to have any answers, but they have all of our money and I think thats just really messed up. I want my money back. How do I get my $600 back?

Description: Signed a contract for a year. Was not physicall able to use it. They fired the first two trainers. I have made many phone calls and faxes to the company and AAC who collects their money. I have received mixed messages that I cannot cancel or it will cost money or they won't consider my health. I have had a doctor fax a letter to them and I have written to cancel the contract. Meanwhile they have taken $600.00 out of my credit card. I have since had a stroke and a broken finger and have not attended the gym. In May I had a heart attack, pneumonia, stent put in, and a stroke. I have not had any training and they say it is available to me so they do not care. Today a representative in my town called and yelled at me and told me I was wasting his time.
He told me I would have to pay $100 to get rid of the contract.

Description: I signed up with beyond fitness at Golds Gym of Hope Mills, NC in July of 05. They took my 279.00 down payment and put it on hold than it came off hold but never out of my account. I said something to my trainer about this (there is no number on the contract to call) and he told me to hang tight the money will come out. In October of 05 I changed my credit card number with the company and asked about the 279.00 payment that had still not come out. I was told the money would come out off the new card number. I payed a 34.00 wire transaction fee to move the money from the old bank to the new one. Here I am in December (on my second trainer who is about to leave so I am now working on my third)2 weeks before christmas and they take the 279.00 off my old card sending my account almost 600.00 in the negative. I call everyone I can about this having one person after the other give me another number to call. Finally I get 919-827-4663 a customer service number where I talk to a girl named Jessie and she transfers me through to another woman who tells me this is all my fault that the money did not come out of the right account and that I should have called her sooner! Never mind that I called the finance company in October and they told me that the money would come out of my new account and never mind that I told my trainer and he told me to hold tight the money will come out. This is all my fault and that woman is sorry but there is nothing she can do! So my christmas is now shot to hell because my next check will cover all these over draft fees not my layaway!

Description: I signed on with Beyond Fitness at the local Gold's Gym 11 months ago. Beyond Fitness religiously charged my credit card on a monthly basis. At about the 6 month mark the Beyond Fitness trainer(s) started complaining about not getting paid and that the company was unresponsive to their complaints. (Why they continued to work without getting paid I do not know.) About a month ago I was told Beyond Fitness filed bankruptcy and a new company called Custom Built is taking over. Same managers, employees, etc. Just new name. How can a company file bankruptcy and simply change their name and continue operating? It is in fact a new company because the trainers had to complete all new newhire paperwork. The trainer(s) are once again not getting paid and mine quit. I was informed there is no one else to train me. Now my card is being charged by a company called Affiliated Acceptance Sunrise Beach. Meanwhile, the contract with Beyond Fitness states that you must inform them 30 days in advance........in writing......to cancel the contract after 12 months.......yet there is no one to write to because apparently Beyond Fitness does not exist any longer. I reported my credit card stolen to stop payments.

Description: It appears that I too have been scammed by Beyond Fitness. I signed a contract last year, was in an automobile accident which disabled me to the point of not being able to attend the fitness sessions. I was then told that the sessions I had missed would be accounted for, allowing me to make them up at a later date. The trainer I was seeing mysteriously left the face of this earty as no one in the company knew where he had gone off to, so I was transferred to another trainer. This trainer let me in to the truth behind Beyond Fitness, all of which is previously stated on various comlaints within this page. I still have a few months left of my year-long contract with Beyond Fitness, however, do not have a beyond fitness trainer within 35 miles of me, and am at a loss with how to cancel this contract. I have placed several phone calls to various beyond fitness locations, the "corporate office", etc. This is extremely stressful, furthermore, I am only 19, my income is only about $350/month of which $280 is being given away to this company which can not even fulfill our original agreement. I was more than willing to meet up with a fitness instructor, I even drove 35 miles one day to meet with the "nearest trainer", that is just absurd. If anyone has any advice, I am truly at a loss here, please contact me at jessaye@gmail.com. Thanks

Description: I signed up for a two year membership on may 2005 since I was told that a brand new beyond fitness gym would be opening up at Wake Forest, NC. The young lady promised me that the gym's grand opening would be either by mid-June or beggining of July. Well it is now November 16 2005 and the gym is not even half way done. When I went there to complain to the sales representative standing outside the entrance, he told me that my only option is to drive to one of the other gyms located in near by cities, but I could not get my money back. What a rip off , six months have gone by and I have not been able to work out at all. Mean while I already piad for the six months and more to come. Some one must do something about this company before it keeps ripping people off their money. How can this be legal?

Description: I have tried to cancel my membership- I paid a few hundred up front 3 or 4 years ago to get a lifetime membership for $10 per month. I never use it, I want to cancel it. I called the number on my credit card statement. It went to a nearby location. They said I had to come in and get the form to cancel membership. A few days later I went in to get the form. Well they "couldnt find any" forms at that moment. I left my name and address and asked them to mail me one. They agreed. It never came. I called the number again and it said the number had been disconnected. so i tried some other numbers for other area locations and THEY ALL HAD BEEN DISCONNECTED. So I give up! I closed the credit card account, so they cannot charge me anymore. I cannot figure out how to tell them that their records for my former last name and address are incorrect. I dont think they could find me if they tried! What a joke of a company.

Description: I joined Gold' Gym in Jan. 2005. I received a free session with a trainer from Beyond Fitness. The regional manager, Mike, took me through the hard sale and asked me what my goals, committment, etc were. I decided that I did need help in starting me out on a correct course in my training. He told me I had to pay the first and last month's fees but I could quit at anytime with a 30 day written notice. To determine the monthly cost, he quoted me a table based on 1 time a week is $100 a month, to 5 times a week is $500 a month. I decided I would sign up for the 3 times a week for $300, thinking that I would stay with it between 4 to 6 months. The trainer he set me up with was sent to another gym when I showed up for my first lesson. The next lesson my trainer explained that not only did he work at another gym across town, he didn't work the evening hours that I needed due to working days. So I even drove across town at first for one of the days a week to work around his schedule, which was a 12 hour a day/6 day a week work schedule that began at 6 a.m. in the morning. By the time I arrived, 6:30 p.m. he had put in a 12 hour day and he was burned out. I continued to work with him for 5 months until he was promoted to a manager. I asked for a woman trainer and I got a very competent upbeat girl trainer who became sick in a month and had to quit. No one even contacted me to set me up with a new trainer. I finally had to call my last trainer to find out who I called to be set up. I was happy with the new trainer and felt shewas very competent but I also got the feeling that she wasn't happy being there and then she got very sick and had to quit. Then I was on my own again and I went back to my old trainer again to get lined up again with a new trainer, again. I really liked her and she was very serious about my plan and goals, plus she was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, she only lasted for approximately 2 months and then she moved away. I am now on my 4th trainer and she is very competent and I like her very much. After I lost my first trainer in June I was not very happy with Beyond Fitness' lack of concern for me and I wasn't feeling like I was benefiting from them at that point, I tried to give my 30 day notice to quit. Well, I found out that I was committed for the full 12 months and if I wanted to quit I had to pay either the remainder of the contract or $250, whichever was less (which was in fine print on the back of the contract of their copy). I also had to pay another $300 for the 30 day notice period and another $300 for the last month's fee. When I told him that I paid the last month's fee upfront when I joined, and that they took the $600 out of my debit card, Mike said that wasn't the last month's fee but a sign up fee because they had to hire a trainer for me. I was furious at how he had blatantly lied and deceived me. So now he was telling me it was going to cost me $850 to quit. I asked for the address to send the notice to, because up to that point he didn't want to give it to me. I was determined to take my losses and quit, and then after I had met my new trainer, I decided to continue for a few months. I later discovered that Mike also cheated me out of sessions. When he told me that I signed up for 3 times a week for $300 a month, I figured I had 156 sessions (3 x 52 - for # of weeks in a year). I then found out that he had me down for 3 times one week and 2 times the next week, which adds up to 130, shorting me 26 sessions. That is very substantial in my book - 8 1/2 weeks. I am not a stupid woman, and I know what I was told. I asked my trainer to look at my file and all those pages of the payment table were gone, along with other paperwork. I trusted him and took him for his word and he screwed me. When I asked my trainer to confront him on this he told her I could come in 3 times a week for the rest of my 12 month period. The only reason I could do that was because at first I had missed sessions and had built them up to have enough to do that. He is a fast talker and a liar. So now I am in my 9th month leaving 3 more deductions. I am very concerned about my canceling and after reading all the other terrible experiences I have reason to be. Not only has Mike deceived me he has several other people, according to comments people have made to me. I think he is a top seller in the company and now I can see why. I don't blame any of the trainers and have had great ones, but they don't last very long because I think they are unethical to them too, from things I have heard. I also like Gold's Gym and have no problem with them. I would hope they would stand behind their customers that sign up for training, but by some of the comments I have read in this site, it seems as though they don't want to get involved. If anyone reads this when deciding to sign up with Beyond Fitness, I would recommend an independent trainer or someone who sells packages and not long term contracts because many things change in life. I found out later that they do offer different packages for a one time set rate, but Mike never even offered meany of those options. He was greedy and saw dollar bills when he saw me. So instead of appreciating my business he tweeked the numbers to cheat me out of sessions. Misleading me by constantly saying I could quit anytime with a 30 day notice. Even when I questioned that on the front of the contract, he gave me a spill about them writing it out that way to base all the fees on a term of 12 months, etc. Based on everything I have been through, I would never recommend anyone do any business with Beyond Fitness and it didn't have to be that way. I would have told everyone how great they could have been, but instead I am telling everyone how terrible they are and taking the time to write to this site.

I can not believe the condition of this facility. Not only had machines been down, TV's not in good repait, but the aerobic room is is in complete disrepair. There are holes in wall, the glass is busted and it is just plain filthy. Several people have commented to the staff to include the manager and the comment is "You get what you paid for" The trainers are not motivating. I worked in this industry for 13 years my self in several different states, until an injury prevented me from teaching for a while. I NEVER worked at a facility with the disregard for cleanliness and customer service that this company has. I have spoken with other members elsewhere and they all say the same things. The gyms are filthy and NO customer service or caring.
My membership is a waste of my good money, because it is hard to go to a place that makes you feel so dirty when you leave. Let alone trying to take a class and when you have to go to the floor, makes you want to throw up!!!!!!!!
This company should be sued and people's money refunded.

Description: I have had a member ship and 3 personal trainers for a year. My contract is supose to end at the end of this month. My current personal trainer informed me that she thought that they, "Beyond Fitness", will continue to debit my checking account because I didn't know that I had to notify them in writing a month earler that I didn't want to renew my contract. When I signed the contract I was told that if I wanted to continue with them I needed to notify them that I wanted to extend the contract otherwise at the end of the year the contract would end. I am realy angry that I was lied to to get me to sign with them. I don't have enough money comming in to pay for this past year but I felt that I needed help setting up an exercise program. I will be informing my financial institute not to honer anymore requests from Beyond Fitness for money from my account.

Description: I belong to Peak Fitness and in March of 2005 after two years of working out on my own, I decided that my independent efforts to obtain my ideal body were not producing results. A representative of Beyond Fitness, an independent contractor of Peak, approached me and we discussed what is entailed in their personal training program. I decided to give it a shot. I gave them a down payment of $279 which included the first and last month installment as well as a $39 processing fee. They were to take drafts from my account every month in the amount of $120.
Like everyone else in the world I am extremely busy. I work full time, go to school full time, and have a number of other family and social obligations. At the beginning of August I finally had the opportunity to review my bank statement from June. Usually I glance at the statement comparing it to my check book searching for charges which are not suppose to be there. However the balance in my checking account was over what it was suppose to be by a couple hundred dollars and I could not figure out why. I poured over it for about an hour and finally noticed that my account had not been drafted for the $120 for Beyond Fitness.
Immediately I phoned my bank as I assumed it was missed this month. They informed me that they never received the paperwork to take automatic drafts and it had never been withdrawn from my account. I could not believe it. I called Beyond Fitness right away to alert them to this fact. I left a message. Two days passed and I had not heard back from them so I spoke to one of the trainers. I asked him who I spoke with regarding a billing issue. He replied that it depended on what it was. I explained the situation watching his eyes grow wide. He guaranteed that he would advise the woman who handled the billing and she would contact me. A few more days went by and I still had not heard from them. I spoke to a different trainer and again explained the situation. The original person I spoke to came by and told me that the staff member (a manager) who originally filled out my contract neglected to input the routing number from my check on the paperwork to start the drafts but that it was taken care of. I wasn't sure what that meant so they advised me that I needed to speak to the manager and I should stop by after my workout. I finished up and went into the office. The manager was on the phone so I waited for 5 minutes or so until he was through. I went through the story with him while two or three other members listened. He could not believe that I was honest enough to bring this to their attention. Well, if I knew about it and did not inform them, that is not only dishonest it is also unethical. He said that he would not have pointed it out if he had been in my shoes. Interesting coming from a manager... Anyway, I told him that I would be more than happy to pay for services rendered but did not have the money immediately available. I would be able to give it to them in full in approximately three weeks. He said that he would contact corporate regarding this matter. He was certain that since I brought this fact to their attention they would be willing to work with me. I was to expect a call from him the next day.
Four days later I showed up for my session and asked my trainer why his manager had not contacted me. He stated that he had to go out of town on short notice but as soon as he returned he make sure he contacted me. The following week, three weeks after I first contacted them about the problem, I showed up for my session and my trainer told me I could stop by the office afterwards to talk to the manager as he had returned. When we finished up I went into the office to speak to him and he told me that corporate wanted their money immediately. He gave me a choice between coming up with the $600 I owed or drawing up a brand new contract with another $279 down and he would prorate the sessions I had already used. I inquired as to what happened to the original money I put down and he told me that it was used for individual training sessions without a contract. That didn't make sense to me so I asked him to clarify. He sighed, stood up and ROLLED HIS EYES at me, got a blank sheet of paper and looked at me as though I was the biggest idiot he had ever come across. At this point I was rip-roaring furious. I had spent three weeks chasing them around to correct an error in their favor and this guy treats me as though I should be thankful he was talking to me at all!!!!!!
Although I was disgusted with him I wanted to resolve the situation. I explained to him that I am an honest person (obviously) and I did not understand why I could not simply pay the money that I owed them in three weeks when I had it. He told me that corporate's problem with that option is that they are paying the trainers but no money is coming in. Say what? I see all of the other clients they have. Surely they have money coming in. Besides, ISN'T THAT WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR THE PAST FIVE MONTHS?
He recognized that we had reached a stalemate at this point so he presented a third option. I could terminate my contract without any penalties to me but that my trainer would have the money he had been paid taken out of his check. My trainer had nothing to do with the incompetence of the other staff members. I could not in good conscience allow him to fall victim to this situation. I informed him that I would have to think about it. In reply he snapped that I was not allowed to train anymore until this was fixed.
I was so angry when I left his office. My trainer contacted me later asking what had happened because he noticed that I was upset. I told him what was said and he apologized for the situation. He stated that his manager was feeling pressure from corporate about this and that he only had my best interests in mind. I responded by telling him that I understand that his paycheck comes from Beyond Fitness and he therefore must present them in the best way he can. However: 1.) his manager was nonchalant about the situation until he found it to be an urgent matter- I compare his attitude to those that work at the DMV, 2.) he treated me as though I should have realized how lucky I was to be in the same room with him- My time is as valuable as his is, 3.) when I asked him to clarify one of the options he had the audacity to ROLL HIS EYES AND SIGH- I understand English and am far more intelligent than he is and if I need to be treated like an imbecile I will attend a Mensa meeting, 4.) if corporate is so concerned about getting paid then why did they not return the contract when they realized the account number was missing, 5.) I am sure that corporate would prefer $600 in a few weeks as opposed to no money at all and thought that they might not appreciate his attitude towards clients- that was until I discovered this website and found out that they encourage rude and unethical behavior.
I spent all day today trying to contact their corporate office. The 800-856-1232 (from the contract) number rings approximately 10 times before a voicemail picks up for Erica. I left Erica a message but did not hear back. I called back later and pressed 0 for the receptionist. A woman answered and became upset after I told her why I was calling. Apparently it is the wrong number. She was polite and gave me another number which was invalid. When I got home and found this website I tried a few more numbers. 770-261-5744 is for a vacant voicemail box. I reached Scott Higginbothom who instructed me to call the customer service number. When I told him that was the wrong number he said that it was probably due to it being late in the afternoon. I only discovered later that he was the Director of Operations.
I am beyond frustrated at this point. I feel as though I have made every effort to give them the money due to them. Had I not been an ethical person they never would have realized that they were not being paid. I would like to terminate my contract with them without any repercussions in the form of either fees or negative credit reportings. I firmly believe after reading all of the postings that this company should not be allowed to continue to operate. If I treated my customers in such a manner my company would be out of business. Any direction or advice is welcome. I sincerly hope that someone out there may learn from my mistake. Research a company before you enter into a contract with them. Also check the Consumer Advocacy site as well as the BBB for complaints filed against them. FYI there have been 63 complaints within the last twelve months against Beyond Fitness. Compare that with 7 against my company in the last three years!

Description: I am a former General Manager of numerous Beyond Fitness's in the NC area who wants to first apologize on behalf of most of the honest managers, to anyone who has been mislead by managers at BF. First of all, the corporate office is a joke! Dont even waste your time dealing with the headaches! The Corp. Off. manager, Peggy Rome,(Randall Rome's mother), wont call you back. Just in case you want to try anyway, call 919-816-9853 or 919-816-9854 ext 123. Next, the company could care less about the MANAGERS OR STAFF, so imagine what they care about YOU! They constantly UNDERPAY employees which leads to the extremely high turnover! Check out www.fight-back.us for more info about the owner(s). Also, the gyms are NEVER professionally cleaned! Some dont even have toilet paper or paper towels because the company owed Carolina Janitorial Supply Co. so many unpaid invoices! Same goes for the Gym Tech co. who says they owe him over 20k for work completed! Most of the Trainers are UNCERTIFIED! They learn from experience. Hate it for you members with legitamate physical problems. As for the people who signed up for the Wake Forest club...I would contact the Atty. General today! Beyond Fitness is bonded for 500k. Divide that by about 65,000 members and you might get a whole cent when they go out of business! They are trying to get Capital Fitness to buy them out right now. I just wanted to give you all some numbers to the owners so hopefully you can get answers from the source. Randall Rome, primary owner-1-404-409-5551, or 1-305-345-1760, Thomas Flynn, minority owner, 1-919-337-5426, Joseph Garcia, Reg. Manager, 1-910-591-7379, or Roger, District Manager, 1-919-244-3445. I again apologize to anyone who suffer a loss of money, time, and patience with this company. I have since left the company and am persuing a lawsuit against the company myself which, because of the numerous complaints and physical evidence of improper business practices, have allow me to retain a attorney "pro bono", FREE! I suggest you call a lawyer immediately before this company closes its doors and ask the atty to take your case for FREE. Most of the lawyers I spoke with said they could easily make a case and would only charge me a percentage of the settlement. He said settlement because NC has very strict laws about record keeping, and monetary incomes, and if they cant present paperwork in a reasonable amount of time the fines start at 10k for the first instance. Trust me...I worked in the corporate S#%$-Hole...there is no way they keep records of draft info and other "STATE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS". Plus, did you know that BF sells its 2yr draft memberships to DUVERA CREDIT AGENGY & FAIR CREDIT AGENCY for cash upfront! Thats why you wont be getting a refund(unless you get a lawyer or news reporter). They also REQUIRE managers and sales people to TELL YOU that you are signing up for a 2yr membership...But after you leave, they will put 12mos+12mos FREE at the top of your contract entitling you to $0 if you cancel AFTER the first year! I hate this company because they made me lie to survive, and Ive seen SO many lower income people get burned when all they wanted was to get in shape! I truly hope that at least one person finds any of this useful. REMEMBER: DONT SIGN ANYTHING unless you read it ALL first! And if the offer is only good for "TODAY", I would pass it up. You have all heard the saying:"If it sounds too good to be true...It probably is!"

Description: During the spring/summer of 2003 after comming home from college I joined Beyond Fitness and was told that at the end of the summer I would be able to cancel my membership if I sent them a letter along with my school information telling them to cancel my membership. Well I followed the procedure that I was given in August of 2003 and still continued to withdraw money from my account. It is now 2005 and I just found out that BEYOND FITNESS has sent my name to a credit agency trying to extort more money from me! DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!!!!! Description: i was an emploee of beyond fitness for a breif time and was robbed also!!!! before i quit , i signed a woman up for approxamatly $3200.00 in personal training ,which i am suppose to get 10% in commission .after the contract was compleated , she recieved a copy , the gym recieved a copy , and a copy was suppose to be sent to the corporate office ,to process my commission.what had happened was , after the client recieved her copy of the contract , and another copy was placed in a binder for reference , my regional manager (sheri pettry) , re-wrote the contract , with no-ones knowlege , forged the clients name , and signed the contract , as if she sold my client the sessions , and sent that to the corporate office!!! one of the girls from corporate was nice enough to fax me, and the client, the copy that was sent in to the corporate office for commission purposes , and what do you know , her signiture was forged , the contract numbers do not match up (2 different contracts), and my regional managers name was the one to get credit for the sale.i have since quit with the company, and the client is pursuing legal action...little does she know , in the state i'm in , theft for anything under $500.00 is considered small , and is a civil matter , unless , it was gained by forgery of a legal contract.my hopes are that golds gym no longer does business with beyond fitness.golds gym members do not understand the difference between golds and beyond , and view them as one entity , so when beyond fitness creates a bad experience , golds gym members suffer and see it as a golds gym issue , for letting them operate in their facility.it also seems to me there are more dissatisfied consumers at the palm springs and palm desert locations than pleased members.

Description: I am currently a member of Gold’s Gym (Atlanta, Hard Rock), and had been training with a Beyond Fitness trainer from October 2004 through July 6, 2005.
When I first started training in October 2004, I was assigned a trainer. As of May or June 2005, my trainer was transferred to another location pending an investigation regarding unethical activities. When he was transferred, I received NO phone call or notification of any sort. I had to make an effort to contact someone, left a message on the General Manager's voicemail (which was not returned), and had to physically ask one of the Gold's Gym employees who to contact to get this issue resolved. I was told to contact the NEW manager who apparently had been transferred to the Hard Rock location to manage the Beyond Fitness trainers. She agreed to resume my training, thus became the beginning of a wonderful trainer/client relationship. She was an awesome trainer, and for the first time while training with Beyond Fitness, I felt that I would finally see results due to her knowledge of personal training, dedication, and desire to push her clients to do their best.
During the week of July 4, 2005, my sessions were cancelled by my new trainer (aka new location Manager) due to illness on her part. We agreed to resume our schedule the week of July 11, 2005. On Monday, July 11, I walked into the gym expecting to be trained at 6:30 p.m., just to be told by another Beyond Fitness trainer that she was no longer training (once again, I received NO phone call regarding yet ANOTHER trainer, for which I am a client, either quitting or being transferred), and for me to do cardio and that the General Manager would be in on Wednesday for my next session. After inquiring further, I was told that my current trainer had actually quit. I phoned the General Manager on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 (early afternoon) to find out what was going on, and he informed me that he would be at Gold’s Gym, Hard Rock location, on Thursday morning. I expressed to him my desire to cancel my membership due to being extremely agitated at the lack of professionalism of Beyond Fitness. He encouraged me to contact the corporate office to notify them of my desire to cancel my membership.
Since my initial sign up with Beyond Fitness in October 2004, I have not been very happy with the service I have received. My first issue was in regard to Beyond Fitness deducting extra monies from my SunTrust checking account during the month November or December . Beyond Fitness was supposed to deduct only $280 from my account monthly. Instead, during the month of November or December, they deducted a total of $400. This truly put me in a financial bind during that time as well as overdrew my account. To keep that situation from occurring again, I closed that account and all future payments were sent directly to Affiliated Acceptance.
Today is Friday, August 11, 2005, and I have YET to hear from a Beyond Fitness employee regarding assigning me a new trainer. Granted, I no longer want to train with a Beyond Fitness trainer, but I should have received a phone call from someone regarding the current situation of my not having a current trainer. I am into the second week of not receiving any training OR a phone call from a Beyond Fitness employee. I am pretty fed up with the treatment I’ve received from Beyond Fitness. It sickens me to continue spending my hard-earned money with a company that does not try to appease their clients.

Description: I entered into a contract for a qualified personal trainer. The trainer that I received lacked professionalism and did not appear competent. Even though I did not receive the training that I was promised, I lived up to the terms of the contract that I signed. When I tried to cancel the 'automatic renewal' on the contract, it was never acknowledged. Gold's Gym refused to give me a corporate phone number or corporate address for Beyond Fitness because they stated that the company was 'just a subcontractor'. They would only give me the local number of the trainers at their gym. When you called the number, no one answered. If you came to meet with them, no one was available. In March 2005, I hand delivered a letter to Gold's Gym/Beyond Fitness that stated I would not want to autorenew my contract and that I was very dissatisfied with the organization. In July of 2005, my credit card was again billed. When I called the only number available to me, I was told that they we
